Saints vs. El Camino Scrimmage
The Saints varsity football team traveled up to Oceanside on Friday afternoon to face El Camino High School for a final tune-up before the official start of the regular season against. Elijah Preston opened the scoring on the first series with a long, winding touchdown run, and Francoise Sims later added another short burst from the one yard line to provide the Saints with all the scoring they would need. Rodney Thompson would add another score on a QB sneak from the one.
Defensively the Saints were dominant in shutting out the Wildcats. El Camino could get little going offensively, as the Saints’ swarming defense gave them little room to breathe, generating five turnovers overall: Frank Buncom, Tommy Goodridge, Marty Rascon, and Isaac Taylor each had an interception, and Tariq Thompson forced a fumble recovered by the Saints.
The Saints’ JV team was also impressive in their unofficial debut, turning in a punishing performance of their own against the Wildcats on Friday.
Next up for the Saints is the regular season opener on Friday night, as they will again travel to Oceanside to take on the perennial powerhouse Oceanside Pirates. The game kicks off at 7:00pm.
