For the past 25 years Saints Varsity Baseball has compiled over 500 wins. Those teams have won 15 league titles, 9 Lion’s Tournament Championships, 3 City Conference Championships, and have been to the C.I.F. Championship game 5 times.
Saints baseball was recently crowned Eastern League Champions (2011) and advanced to the Semi-finals of the CIF playoffs. The tradition is rich in Saints Baseball and the program
will continue to produce fundamentally sound baseball players who continue their playing careers at the next level.
Head coach Craig da Luz has been at the helm of the program for the past 3 years. Following a playing career that started at St. Augustine and ended in the Detroit Tigers organization, he began his coaching career. His first season was at the High School level in 2002 with St. Augustine, as an assistant under then skipper and 427 game winner Mike Stephenson (who was Coach da Luz’s high school head coach). da Luz would spend one season as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego under Torero Head Coach Rich Hill before returning to Saints as an assistant for three more years and then assumed the head coaching duties in 2009.
Coach da Luz has averaged 20 wins a season and captured a league title in 2011 after falling 1 game short in 2009 and 2010. da Luz’s squads have gone deep into the playoffs each of his 3 seasons and reached the semi-finals last season.
Every year the program goals are to play to the best of our ability with very high expectations of self and team, play with class and dignity, win a league title and the CIF Championship … this year is no different!
